Hello,

I have been doing woodworking from the age of 15, back in 1954.

My wife and I also have traveled all over the USA we have been in all the states but HAWAII with our travel trailer so when they build a bridge we may go there.

I retired from ARMCO Steel Mill here in Butler, Pa with over 30 years of service. Another hobby I have is metal detecting.

Butler is also the home of the first JEEP ever built the "American Bantam JEEP "

Hello Jerry and welcome.  Glad you joined us, the more the merrier.  Jump right on.  Metal detecting has always peaked my interest but I have never ventured into it.  What is your best find?

I have a Whites DFX detector and the best find has only been a handful of old silver coins nothing worth any big money. I haven't been out in a couple years, because the friend that would go with me died of Mad Cow disease and he was like a brother. when I would go out after he died I found myself looking around for him.

I'll have to get back into it next summer.

Hi Jerry, welcome! I think you'll find this is a great forum and very friendly. I also metal detect a little now and then. My weapon of choice was a Tesoro Toltec but it came up missing a couple years ago. Don't know if I left it somewhere or if it got lifted out of my van. Kind of ironic for a treasure hunter to lose his treasure hunter if you know what I mean. I still have a Garrett GTA500 that was my back up machine.

Welcome aboard Jerry...always room for one more. Looking forward to your participation especially with your experience. Think you'll find this is a great place to hang out on a regular basis.

You've found the Cadillac of  woodworking sites. Nothing but the best from everyone, whether it's woodworking or just plain friendly gab.I think you'll enjoy your visit, and may want to hang around for awhile.

Welcome Jerry.

Welcome aboard Jerry.

I have also dabbled into metal detecting.  Usually for nails in old lumber though!

I did try to use my detector to find a friends ring that he thought may have been dropped on his walkway.  Did not find it.  He found it later in his recliner...

Sorry to hear about your friend.   Prions are nobody's friend.  :(

Sorry to hear about your friend. Metal detecting is quite popular locally along the beaches. Especially after a big ocean storm.  I've never gotten into it myself, but I've heard that some people get quite territorial along the beaches. Sort of like claiming their own mine.

Welcome to the best place to be. Jerry I am sure you gonna like it here.

Welcome aboard, glad to have you here. :)
