Popular Post Ron Altier Posted December 1, 2016 Popular Post Report Posted December 1, 2016 Gene said this about the small quilt rack Showed it to the wife. She liked it too but, she prefers using a hoop in her lap. Different strokes, I guess. She doesn't even want a rack for display. Gene , I also made some of the lap embroidery lap loops. I laminated them using the technique pictured. They came out good and she used them for as long as her interest in that art form lasted. Those of you that don't know, you put the base between and under your legs when you sit and position your hoop, then tighten the wing nuts HARO50, steven newman, Gerald and 6 others 9 Quote
Gene Howe Posted December 1, 2016 Report Posted December 1, 2016 That's a pretty neat idea, Ron. Was that your ingenious mind at work? What wood did you use for the laminates? And, where did you find the hoop fastenining hardware? Thanks, Ron. Quote
Stick486 Posted December 1, 2016 Report Posted December 1, 2016 Ron... those are ingenious art... Quote
Ron Altier Posted December 1, 2016 Author Report Posted December 1, 2016 Gene, the bolts and wing nuts are the only hardware. The whole thing is made of red Oak. The laminate strips came out better than I thought they would. The only problem area was where the hoop glued on to support. One didn't hold and had to be redone. Must of been something on the wood or a bad glue job. Quote
Grandpadave52 Posted December 2, 2016 Report Posted December 2, 2016 Very cool Ron. Do you or your mind ever rest? You never cease to amaze me with your creativity, ingenuity, and craftsmanship. Thanks for sharing. Quote
Ron Altier Posted December 2, 2016 Author Report Posted December 2, 2016 Dave, my mind does wander a lot about design and flow. I tried oil painting lessons in the army and shipped out before I got far. I tried clay and found out I wasn't too good at that. I have done some modern art and do like it, but woodworking is what I like best. I did do one complex off center turning of modern art. If I can find the picture, I'll post it. I found it and posted on the turning section Grandpadave52 1 Quote

Ron Altier Posted December 2, 2016 Author Report Posted December 2, 2016 I had a complicated and stressful job for 37 years and was able to retire early. The freedom to do what I wanted was was huge relief and wonderful thing. I don't watch TV news or things that are depressing. I just enjoy doing my woodworking and occasional charcoal/pencil art. I also do not sell my work, I either give it away or my wife keeps it. I HAVE NO BOSS, DEADLINE OR CREWS TO MANAGE. I am a blessed person. Grandpadave52, Gene Howe and HARO50 3 Quote
