A few years ago, I picked a level at a garage sale for a couple bucks.    Got it home, cleaned it up.....set it by a cabinet in the dining room.....and then......it came up missing....

Well, when the painters started to paint the dining room a week ago.....we had to move things out of the way.....laying on the floor was that old level.

Has a Brass cover plate over the "Level" vial

A Stanley "SW" No. 3 stamped into the plate.  The "Plumb" vial has a brass cover to protect  it...

Needs a bit of clean up, now.     All the screws are in place, even on the ends...

So, I guess I will have to refinish the Cherry wood body, and shine some brass?

Here is what it looked like when I first brought it home..

Not too bad.   Makes me wonder what else has been lost in this house......

Great serendipitous find, Steve. I'm usually afraid to look behind our furniture.

A couple weeks ago I was removing drywall from an interior wall, prepping to have the wall removed.  I found a quarter inside the wall cavity dated 1993.  The wife and I both puzzled over this for a couple hours as the house was built in 1988 and we had never touched the wall.

Then it dawned on me that on the kitchen side of the wall the flooring, including subfloor, had been replaced due to a water leak.

I'm afraid if we ever moved stuff here we'd find Amelia Earhart, Jimmy Hoffa and the Lindbergh Baby.
