Flag Etiquette question...

Featured Replies

I try to fly the flag on all the days I should, but don't remember (or never knew) should I have put it up on election day?

I am not sure what officially are flag flying days, but I would think that any day would do including Election day.

The flag should be displayed, from sunrise to sunset, on all days when the weather permits, especially on,

New Year's Day
Inauguration Day
Martin Luther King's Birthday
Lincoln's Birthday
Washington's Birthday
Easter Sunday
Patriots Day, April 19
National Day of Prayer, the 1st Thursday of May
Mother's Day
Armed Forces Day
Memorial Day (half-staff until noon)
Flag Day
Independence Day, July 4th
Labor Day
Constitution Day
Columbus Day, October 12th
Navy Day
Veterans Day
Thanksgiving Day
Christmas Day
Election Days

and such other days as may be proclaimed by the President of the United States.

Mine's up everyday. Lit at night.

I have a question as the light - is a regular entry light, mounted above the flag adequate or do you need to have more light on the flag?

I believe technically you're supposed to have a dedicated light for the flag specifically. Personally, we have our flag out our front porch basking in the light of our porch. To install another light in the immediate area would be redundant.

I have a dedicated spot light.

We take ours down before dusk.
