As a comparison to the Jewel chest I will post this piece. I made this before the Jewel Chest for my son. I got the idea from one of the wood magazines. It is made with the same maple, but he wanted it dark (General, Georgian Cherry) stain. I tried to dissuade him as it would cover the nice grain effect of the maple, as all his furniture was dark. His mind was set , so I did, and it did.

After I gave it to him, I decided to make the one for myself out of the scraps left over from his.

As an after thought I should have kept his and not stained it and made him another out of straight grained material..
