Current project

I've been AWOL for a while, but here's my current project.  It's a bookcase for a grand-niece of mine.  Made from birch plywood and some lumber.  Stain is Old Masters Cherry (her choice of color).  Next up are a couple of coats of Old Masters Clear Satin poly and taking it to her place.  She thinks I'm splitting the cost of it with her, but it's actually going to be a freebie.

And yes, there are some flaws in it.

Hey John, long time no see, 'er hear, well read. :P Glad you're doing OK and back among us.

Nice looking bookcase. She should be really happy with it especially when she learns Uncle John made it just for her.

Grain of the birch with the chosen stain looks very nice too. You can see the flaws, well because you made it and know where you weren't satisfied

I guess the edge & other trim came from a some tree? :D I've got some of that lumber too. :P Thanks for sharing.

Yep, I'm doing just fine, no problems.  Still doing the part-time FD thing (taught a trench rescue class last month).

Trim was made from birch lumber.  The cutter of the double beading bit I bought was only 5/8" tall, so I had to improvise and make two passes on the 3/4" edge of a board to make that trim.  Glue and some 23ga. pins are holding it on.

That aside, nice...both the sentiment and the work.

Hi, John. Nice work. Your grand niece will love it.

Hey Fire John,

Good to see you posting again and that  is one nice piece.

Hey John, I'm glad I'm not the only one who makes freebies.  The house of my kids are full of them.  Nice case!

Nice job John, I'm sure she will love it. Good to keep them thinking to the last they are paying.
