Saturday Woodworking Quiz 11/05/2016

Featured Replies

Good Saturday Morning Woodworkers,

We all know that when changing the blade on the table saw, that we should unplug the cord from the outlet.

But, what if it is hardwired to the panel box? What do you do?

Circuit breaker.

Breaker off, check it anyway...

Then break the line and install an appropriate receptacle and plug...

Forgot...take the belt off would help a lot...

ADD...

Close the breaker in addition to making sure the saw's switch is off.

Rewire the saw so that there is a switch. I would not any tool hardwired directly to the panel box

shouldn't that be ''OPEN'' the breaker???

should have a disconnect in the line...

if not.. get one...

Opening and closing breakers often will likely cause premature failure...at least that's what I've been told. As Stick said, wire in a disconnect. Never trust a switch.

I noticed Ralph didn't say anything about a switch.....perhaps he has a saw wired for 220V.    Yep, switch in the off, or at least the red button has been pressed to shut the saw down.    Go to the breaker, and turn them (2 on a 220V breaker SHOULD be together) OFF.   Change the blade, turn the breakers back on,  test the switch.

yup...

Pretty much all the above ^^^

Gotta ask the same question...why would ANY power tool be direct hard wired?

An amputation waiting to happen w/o a way to shut tool off at station.

When I was teaching at the Correctional Institution all stationary tools were hardwired into the panel box and locked to keep the inmates out. However I had power kills installed to prevent any problems in several locations for safety sake.
