Seems about every week or so I get an "invite" from AARP - or other unsolicited invite that contains a plastic "credit card" type of insert.  Am I supposed to feel honored that they send this to me, or obligated to purchase/sign up or whatever since they have gone to great expense and time to find me and send this to me?  Or maybe I should feel guilty enough to send them my money???

 

Anyhow, thanks again AARP.  I use that card as a "bondo spreader" to apply wood filler.  They work great, and the price is "just right" for this guy.  I hate to tell them, I don't even have any remorse for using it like this!!!

I save all those for the same reason, also glue on veneers, etc.

Cut one edge with pinking shears. Makes a great glue spreader.

Keep one in the glove box..... it'll scrape frost off the windows in a pinch!

Yep...several years ago while in the Peach State during January, they had a hard frost...rental cars in Atlanta don't come equipped ice/frost scrapers...people at the Hotel were stressing out what to do...pulled a credit card out of my wallet showed them what to do... Funny to me, the night before the Atlanta evening news was telling everyone to take the batteries out of the card and take them inside. 

I use them to smooth stick epoxy (like Quikwood, but from Mohawk) before it sets up.   A little soapy water lubes it.

 

Some great uses for these things.

Surprised no one brought up B&E?  The one time I had locked my garage keys inside the shop, used the credit card trick to break in.

I will very definitely put one in the glove box, and have SWMBO do the same,

CCs make good shims, too. 

Cal when wood grain filler was an oil base mixture I would use a wide putty knife to get it out of the can and on to the wood then I would switch to spreading it with the palm of my hands. I can get it worked in to the grain way faster that way than with any kind of a card.  Let sit till the sheen  was gone, few minutes then remove some with a toe sack, not all for you will pull some out of the grain and that is where it is supposed to be.. This is the way I started doing this before credit credit cards came on the scene...

   Oh, and before you take it out of the can do stir it up for about 1/2 hour and be sure it is mixed good. 

 

I fell out with AARP two or three elections ago. They sent out pampletes saying every one at AARP was voting with the democrats and was urging all to do the same. The same happened when I was a firefighter in Lubbock. They sent out letters to all who lived in Lubbock saying all the firefighter where voting forthis one certain guy and wanted everyone to do the same. Lie lie cause  of the 16 men at central station on my shift it was 50-50.

AARP has provided me with very good supplementary health insurance. Other than that, I rarely return their political support pamphlets. The cards do make good glue spreaders.

I dropped them several decades ago when they got  political and stopped looking out for the members.

We have lots of old "gas" cards that give us .10 off a gallon and you can refill them or just buy new.   I've probably got a lifetime supply of them and there are always "empties" in the car.   Used one years ago while in DC when a little snow shut down the town and the only ones on the road were me, semis, and buses.   That was a lol (although the term wasn't around back then...lol).
