October 31, 20169 yr Popular Post About 4 years ago, a friend wanted me to look at his desk. I was very surprised at a beautiful Oak roll top desk. It was in his basement rec room/office. A water leak had gotten to it, it was stained from the water and the roll top would not work. He asked if I thought I could fix it. I thought I could and told him so. He said OK, it is yours, all you have to do is get it out of here. He had it custom made and it featured a place for his desk top computer, a printer drawer on the bottom left and a place for the keyboard and other components on the right. That darn thing was SO HEAVY, The top just rested on the two sides and we was able to carry it out in 3 pieces. I had do a lot of refinishing and the roll top was only stuck, and was jammed against a loose stop.
October 31, 20169 yr That is a beautiful piece Ron. I have an old oak roll top secretary. I was told that it was old when my granddad bought it in the 1930's. It is needing some work. Cal
October 31, 20169 yr Author He had it built to his specs by a fine furniture maker. All square, all joints perfect and he did a great job. I may convert it to a more conventional roll top, desk top computers are nearly extinct.
October 31, 20169 yr Excellent Ron...certainly worth the effort to extract it from his basement. FWIW...I still much prefer my desktop over a laptop. Edited October 31, 20169 yr by Grandpadave52
