October 28, 20169 yr Popular Post I just went all over the world in my pickup and found enough real colorful woods to finish this guy, Now to find some clear lacquer to shine his boots. I bout never found the real orange wood. Then I remember while living in Orange County, California they use to have lots of orange trees. We had some in our yard. Not many left to pick from though. Now there is a house sitting where each tree use to be.

October 30, 20169 yr Author John I went to Yorba Linda grammer school from about 1941 to 1950. Richard Nixon's museum now.. Main street is still only one block long. I think the population was 3 or 4 hundred and it stayed the same while living there. Started to high school in Fullerton for there was no high school in Yorba Linda. We only had one black guy and two spanish in my class in YL, then, and the rest of the people from Tex, Okla, Ark, and New Mexico. Dad said we were Leaving Tex. going to Cal. to get rich and eat oranges and lemons and Avocados. Whats an Avocado dad? There used to be a train that came right in to down town, then the tracks stopped. It was for the packing houses. All that is gone now. I use to have a paper route and it started three block east of down town where the foot hills started with hardly no roads and only about 30 houses could be found in about fifty square miles. This land was known as the barley fields. A big concrete vi-dock, irrigation, for all the fruit trees came right through town going right by the ball diamond on the north side of the school. Its all gone also. I think going east of YL the next towns were San Bernardino or Riverside depending on which road you started on.. Amazing, for when we left in 1941, today, Ropesville still has the exact streets it had back then at 405 population, but now maybe 100 live there. The reason main street in YL is only one block long, it dead ended and no where to continue. Some relation said it was maybe good we moved back to Tx for all my buddies later in life turned into dope heads. But that's not known for sure, probably rattling at the mouth!!!!!! Another amazing note, when you left town heading toward San Bernardino as soon as you got into the sure nuff hills there were more vendors selling their produce or what ever they grew than there was spots along each side of the road to accommodate sellers and buyers. Some people came in and bought dads car repair business and all the other businesses in that area which was one of the reason we moved back home. No one knew what was happening but then Disney Land started construction where all the businesses were. Just think if he had not sold to those guys we could have been right in the middle to Magic Mountain with no way to get there. We took a vacation going through much of southern cal in 1963 and our windshield got so smudged over we could not see to drive at night. We are all sold out of windex and anything else for the windshield was kinda common back then. I sure hope some of that has been corrected. Cheers John..
