Wednesday's Wisdom For Woodturners October 26, 2016

Featured Replies

I thought I'd get to the lathe this week- I did get the shop cleaned and lumber re-stacked after the furnace guy left- but life has a way of changing your plans.

Anyway, Captain Eddie put up a 2 part video on finishing a turning. He offers his opinion on what a great finish should look like and how to create it. He also offers his recipe for a home brew finish and the steps to get a glossy, hard finish.

Woodworker's Journal put up a video by Ernie Conover. In this one, Mr. Conover turns three different kinds of rolling pins- Baguette, American and Pasta. I recently attempted the pasta pin but had difficulty getting sharp edges around each segment. I should have watched this video before I started.

Woodturning OnLine's October Newsletter came a while back. The featured video was from Carl Jacobson. Mr. Jacobson turns a multi-piece work of art. The finished piece is really cool-

Finally, one of our members- Henri Olanie has a lathe for sale. Checkout his post here on "The Patriot"-

Safe Turning

You nailed it again Lew!  You have posted plenty of items to explore again this week.  I will definitely take the time to do so.

Thank You

Got time to watch Captain Eddie today.  He looked and sounded good.  I have never been able to use CA glue on anything bigger than a pen.  Maybe it is time I try again.

Hey Lew, how is Capt Eddie doing these days? I remember a while back he was in some serious straights with his health?

Good post Lew!

Captain Eddie and Carl Jacobson, wow. Two guys that I've learned a ton from. Used to marvel at what Carl can do on a lathe. I can't lie though, I am not a big fan of shine juice, or any other friction polish for that matter. Still, very informative post which is what I've come to expect  this series.

Thanks Steve!

John, from what I gather he's healing nicely, although he still is not using the lathe.

Thanks for the follow up Lew. Glad to hear he's in better shape.
