This is just so wrong:

LA Times

I saw this too on the news Wichman, I couldn't believe this. Recalling money from troops, who were promised the money for re-upping and serving, the fault of the recruiters, not them!

grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr....

Don't hear of any representatives trying to fight this.

Yet again our government and particularly the current administration has grossly failed our military men and women. Everyone impacted by this should band together seeking a class action lawsuit and immediate stop action injunction against the government...

This same government who just "secretly" paid a ransom of $1.3B to one of our enemies would be the only cowards to pull such BS (not band-saw either!). The same administration who has spent billions in the last 4 years providing for golf outings, personal chef's, hairdressers and other staff to accompany them on personal retreats. What's even worse this same government expects these same men and women to lay their lives on the line (who willingly do regardless of consequences to themselves or their own family because they believe in more than self and a far greater cause of democracy) and then pull something like this. Give me a "friggin" break...Political BS in it's highest form...Sorry John (and everyone else), I know we're supposed to stay politically neutral, but wrong is wrong...Not disassembling this soapbox in case I need it later.

This statement says it best! “They’ll get their money, but I want those years back,” she said, referring to her six-year reenlistment.

24 hr/day x 365 days x$7.50 (just used basic minimum wage as bare bones example) = $65,700/yr x 6yr = $394,000 owed...that's what the class action suit should specify as a minimum due to each soldier!  Edit add:  And the legal team to represent them should do it pro-bono for the privilege and payback to represent those who have served! OK, off the box....for now

Thanks Gene...just how I feel and see it...while I never served (waited to see my outcome of the old draft lottery), I have family members and several close friends who did; All have my deepest respect and heartfelt thanks for preserving my privilege to be a citizen of this country.

Probably shouldn't hit the "Like" button 1000x though...might knot up the system or melt the servers...then we'd both be in the penalty box!

My Dad was in that and he told me they turned the fire hoses on them

Herb

It made me angry and then again many things make me angry about the way the military and VA do things. Just add this one to my list.

However I do have some good news. The $500,000 VA hospital in Denver, is going to be completed. Yeaa!!

Just one little thing, due to corruption and graft, it will now cost 1.5 BILLION.  An investigation found NO ONE guilty of corruption.  I don't know, but it sounds like another Hillary club.

I can't image how your father and others must have felt at the time...to be betrayed and have the nation they swore to defend  turn their back to them.  Made me lose some respect for MacArthur after reading the account; realize he was following Presidential orders, but they were from the same Army as he...that time was like no other in this nation with the depression, the dust bowls...unfortunately we apparently learned little from our own history.

My dad never showed any animosity towards McCarther, but he didn't have any good words for Hoover, I am surprised he named me after him. HAHAHAHAHAHAHA

That is good news , Dave,  I sure hope they follow through and make it right.

I say today where the Secretary of Defense told the Pentagon to stop collection

Looks like publicity is going to reverse Pentagon stand on this.  Stupid of them to penalize vets for Pentagon/Guard error.  They don't backcharge their vendors for errors:  they pay them even more to fix what should have been right in the first place.  Bad optics.

BUT, this is what happens when you go "all volunteer".  You pay a lot more.  Reminds me of the folk song phrase "the lucky boys are even paid".  Vietnam era.

However, I think there is more to the story than the current headlines.  There have been a number of convictions already because there was intentional fraud.  Some of the recipients knew they didn't merit the bonus, and some of the admin types took bribes, as I recall.  Mixed in are a number of innocents, but it's like picking out individuals in a herd of zebras.  To an extent, when I deal with anything military (as a service member, which I done did; or as a builder or engineer working on a military project, also done did) I expect screwy things to happen.  My expectation has rarely been disappointed.
