John Morris Posted October 17, 2016 Report Posted October 17, 2016 Good Morning All! What a glorious morning it is, and a wonderful Monday here on the west coast where temps feel more like fall, and I actually had to put a sweater on over the weekend! I love it. How have you been? What accomplishments can you brag about over the weekend? Anything is welcome here in this topic, woodworking, your team won over the weekend, a vacation you took? We are nosy, and we love pictures of your weekends. So feel free to drop us a note, and let us know how your weekend was, and what plans you may have for the week ahead, have a wonderful week Patriot Woodworker's! New feature for our community Please help us decide if we should keep the new "Forum Links" box above each forum category topic listing and posts listing. It's a quick way to get to another forum without having to back out of the current forum you are in. It is in Beta mode right now, testing and feeling if it's a good thing, or if too much is too much. Feel free to drop your feedback at Fast Jump. If we decide to keep it, we will remove the "Jump To" at the upper right area of our community. The quizzes are back! We asked Mr. Ralph Jones if he would come aboard and fire up his weekly woodworking quizzes, and he said he would! How cool is that? Since most of us are WOOD Forums leftovers, or migrators from back in the day (like myself) we are all familiar with Ralph's quizzes. Thank you Ralph for taking this job on, we appreciate you sir! Wounded warrior adopt a family project This year like last, we are embarking on a project to adopt our Wounded Warrior Family for Christmas. An organization we proudly support sponsors the Adopt a Family for Christmas project, and they reach out to us to provide a family of a Wounded Warrior the funds they need to have a Christmas. These families are in difficult times, and they need our help. We will fire this project up officially this week. There will be a raffle of some wonderful tools provided by our sponsors, and everyone is invited to participate, 100% of the proceeds will be sent to our adopted family. Follow this link to our Adopt a Family project from last year at Operation Ward 57 Adopt a Family so you can have an idea of how this works. (PLEASE CHECK BACK LATER THIS WEEK FOR DETAILS) Have a wonderful Monday folks, and keep up the great work, we are seeing some awesome work by you, and I'd like to personally thank you for helping us maintain such a warm and inviting community for all woodworkers, from all walks of life, without you, we could not be! Gene Howe Posted October 17, 2016 Report Posted October 17, 2016 WOW! You're up early, John. Got Morris#2 dry fitted over the weekend. Other than that, nothing new on the mesa. Oh, a car did go by on the road out front. John Moody and John Morris 2 Quote

Grandpadave52 Posted October 17, 2016 Report Posted October 17, 2016 (edited) - Fall break for grand-kids started EOD on Friday for a week - Oldest grand-daughter & I hit one of the Covered Bridge flea market locations on Sat for a while; one of the largest crowds ever...came away with a Stanley Yankee 41Y for $3, (2) Lemon Shake-ups ($10) and a big bag of kettle corn ($6); afternoon with grand-daughter=Priceless - Got to spend some time on my block planes refurbishing; got a good start on the little Miller-Falls, low angle, adjustable mouth; unexpected rain yesterday messed up outdoor activities til late in the day - Daughter/SIL van popped a CEL code (P0700); did some trouble-shooting; only issue I could find was a loose fuel cap (again); cleared code, test drove; everything seems OK - Colts choked (again); Purdue fired Darrell Hazlett; way over-due; really nice, likable guy with great values, just out of his league as B10 head coach. IU gave Nebraska all they wanted but lost; HS team was blown out on Friday 45-0 by #4 rated team; first time in years ended regular season below .500. (4-5) - 3/4 grand-kids just left for St. Louis with SIL's parents for a couple days so who knows what I might get accomplished by Wednesday! Maybe a nap or two! - Will have to watch Mr. Newman after he sees this week's eye candy. Edited October 17, 2016 by Grandpadave52 LarryS and John Morris 2 Quote
HandyDan Posted October 17, 2016 Report Posted October 17, 2016 Both days were gorgeous weather wise which added to the enjoyment. Had a good dinner and meet with my siblings Saturday. Everyone was in a good mood, lots of smiles and some joking and ribbing. Sunday I went out back to the shop and set up the new to me band saw. Cut a bunch of firewood into turning blanks for the string tops. 24 of them to be exact. Hopped Got on the four wheeler and terrorized the neighborhood some. Felt good to be able to do that in short sleeves in the middle of October. Stopped and had a short BS session with one of them. Very nice weekend. John Morris 1 Quote
John Morris Posted October 17, 2016 Author Report Posted October 17, 2016 Man, you guys got a lot going! I thought I was busy! Quote
John Moody Posted October 17, 2016 Report Posted October 17, 2016 Well I got the plant stand glued up and now I am working on moulding for the bottom and under the top. Got the two sections of the walnut top glued and sanded for the Bistro table. Just got to cut it out round now. and I got the pieces of Poplar cut and planed to thickness for the screen doors. Sunday we had two of the granddaughters over so there wasn't much shop time. Quote
Charles Nicholls Posted October 17, 2016 Report Posted October 17, 2016 (edited) Monday's are always busy for me here, at least the first 5-6 hours of the day. Always someone coming over, whether it be a nurse checking on me or whatever. I did get a bit of work done over the weekend but not near as much as I wanted. Started out with this purple pen piece but it had a small hole that needed to be filled, seen on the right. So as that dried, I went back to a duck call body that I am making from Cocobolo. I am told that it is a bit too wide for most users, so I am going to reshape it a bit and see then if it will be better. Dimensions are 2 15/16 Long x 1.5" Wide. Anyone know of a good brass polish? I guess I could google it, but recommendations would be better. The insert that will be used in this is a clear acrylic, Made by Echo I believe. Thanks for looking! Ron Altier Posted October 18, 2016 Report Posted October 18, 2016 Ralph joining made my day and completed the circle of people that made the old wood forum good. Thanks coming aboard Ralph. There were also some not so good things happening there, mainly because wood didn't try, they didn't care............it didn't make them money. John Moody, John Morris and Grandpadave52 3 Quote

Well, not that profit is a bad thing, I am a capitalist through and through, free market, few regulations etc. But, profit on TPW? HA! Nope. We make enough to pay our hosting bills and licensing fees and have a few bucks left over to help out some very deserving disabled veterans when we can. Nobody sacks a penny off this community, not our staff, not me, we are here for the love of woodworking, and meanwhile if we can help our brothers and sisters who have put it all on the line in the name of our freedoms and our nation, then we done good. Me, our admins, and our forum hosts, all get paid the same here, it's a whopping six figure income! $000,000. As a matter of fact, this is a profit sharing community, you get paid the same as we do Ron! John Moody, HARO50, Harry Brink and 3 others 6 Quote
