October 16, 20169 yr I got this clock at a garage sale, it had no hands or clock movement and the hole where clock movement shaft goes into had to be redone & re drilled. I put a new movement in and now at a few feet the clock is hard to read. I am thinking about painting the numbers a different color and so I need some help picking a color. I wait a few days and see what everyone likes. At another garage sale I rescued some wood sealer( 9 BEHR natural seal plus no. 92-NWF water proofing-wood sealer & finish-clear for decks, fencing, siding). I used this on the clock a week ago and its still not dry? Should I strip it off and go another route? Preston
October 16, 20169 yr That is such a nice looking wood, painting the numbers may look awful. Have you thought about using hands of a lighter color? From the position of the hands, you really do not need to the numbers perfectally
October 17, 20169 yr Author I painted the hands white and will put them on when the paint dries. Preston
October 17, 20169 yr white will show up good on that background. Are you doing anything with your carving???
October 17, 20169 yr Author Well here it is with the hands painted white and I think it looks a lot better than black. Preston

October 29, 20169 yr Sorry, Preston...white looks too much a contrast and doesn't seem to "character" with the rest of it...maybe the same color as the numbers....? I base that on the "3", "5" and "10"...they seem to show up nicely over the wood... Beautiful piece of wood, by the way...
October 30, 20169 yr The white looks like you can tell the time from across the room. That looks good to me. I put black hands on a white background. We have had this clock on the wall about fifty years. The numbers and hands are the same gold but my background is darker than yours..No need to go out and buy gold or brass colors to match the numbers.
