October 8, 20169 yr I came home yesterday from work and lo and behold, my Hock iron was awaiting for me on our kitchen counter! I purchased a 1 3/4" wide blade for my first Jack Plane construction attempt. Image below is the iron on its side, I wanted to show off the main 30 degree bevel, there is no secondary, or micro bevel, I love this about these irons! I am not a big fan of micro bevels. I like the full thickness of the intersecting edge contacting the wood surface, for me personally, I notice a difference in registration of the blade to the wood, and there also seems to be a complete lack of chatter without micro bevels. That's just my own personal fiction, many folks believe in and use the micro bevel in their planes. And that is fine, we all have our nuances. I purchased this iron from David Finck's website, he is the fellow I also purchased the book from at: The Hock irons have a legendary reputation, I have never owned one before, but I do now, and I am very happy with it. Now I need to get to work on the creation of my Krenov style wood plane. I'll keep yall informed of my progress!
October 8, 20169 yr Did you let the iron out of your sight last night? Congrats! I am looking forward to following the build of your plane

October 8, 20169 yr Good looking blade but, I wouldn't want to sleep with it either. Count another looking fwd to the plane build.
October 8, 20169 yr Remember, John...pictures, pictures, pictures...the story is no good without them. I've been wanting to do the same type of build myself. Maybe this will motivate me!

I have a nice little slab of lumber I am going to make my plane and others from. I think it's an 8/4 chunk of Apple in a slab about 24" by 24". Nice and air dried too.
October 11, 20169 yr I have a Stanley #8 with a Hock blade. Blade may be worth at least half the cost of the plane.

Thanks John, I was almost ready to start in on it today, but I saw my rocker staring back at me when I entered the shop, it wants to be finished, and sold. So does our bank account want it to be finished, and sold!

All this stuff has been sitting on all the flat surfaces and in the floor so I couldn't move around.
