October 4, 20169 yr Popular Post Delivered this set to son and DIL last Friday. White oak, wipe on home brew finish. One more to go. DIL claimed this one. Edited October 4, 20169 yr by Gene Howe
October 4, 20169 yr The finish really set off both pieces Gene. DIL looks pretty happy in "her" new chair...probably better than I would've anyway! ...about an hour or less in that chair and foot rest and I would be performing an inner eye-lid inspection. Well done...Thanks for inspiring us.
October 5, 20169 yr That is one great looking set. This will be priceless as it is handed down in the family.
October 5, 20169 yr Beautiful work, Gene! I love the way the color of the leather compliments the oak.
October 5, 20169 yr Really nice...can I ask: what did the cushions cost to have made? (If you don't want to answer I understand). I want to build on and have always wondered what the cushions would run.

A lot of the price depends on the materials used. Materials for this chair and ottoman was $335 and labor was $250. The white oak for two chairs and ottomans was a tad over $800. I have a lot left. As with most everything, costs depend a lot on location. But, I ain't moving. Edited October 5, 20169 yr by Gene Howe
October 5, 20169 yr Looking good Gene!!!!! I know this was a labor of love but I also know how many hours you have in them. my son made 1 set and he had lots of time in them.

Nothing like John's Maloof rockers. But, the processes are time consuming. Especially when you start with all 8/4 skip planed lumber. At least, most of it was 1SE.
October 5, 20169 yr Great craftsmanship. Beautiful wood, work and the model makes it appear for sale. Great job on the bent arms. Have you ever tried steam bending? I've got the bug and will start working on it this winter, I hope. Steve, the old FlGatorwood
October 5, 20169 yr Author Steve, the only bending I've done was to use black sewer pipe with water and fabric softener. Left it in the hot AZ summer sun for several hours. 5/8X3/4 oak and walnut bent like spaghetti.
