September 28, 20169 yr Danl was his name, ask me to make these for his wife's Christmas. Well I think when he got them in the mail he must have been so upset, and fell off a ladder, and put himself in the hospital. Anyway this is what he saw right before he came crashing down. You see he gave me specific orders on how he wanted me to make these. Like always I make things to suit me...and not even the colors he ask for. I sure hope he gets better if he ever comes looking for me. Trouble is, I don't even know what he looks like and especially how big he is. Hey Danl, I did use Baltic Birch wood and that's kinda expensive but yes I did use Crayola coloring book colors and they are on the cheap-o side of the chart. You know he might feel a lot better towards me if when he fell off the ladder the operation he had to have made one leg about 6 inches shorter than the other and he is afraid he will always have a slight limp. Its funny to for his wife told me he never had a violent temper before he started dealing with me. This was Christmas before last and I sure hope the finish hasn't started falling off yet for they told me at the store the dye would ruin anything it touches. The guy at the paint store did tell me about a ten hour warranty but I thought that was a strange way to guarantee anything so I let it go at that. I did send two sets and he only requested one.
September 29, 20169 yr Smallpatch, you are so skillful in scroll sawing and story telling. The Christmas figurines are still admired. Look'n pretty! Danl
September 29, 20169 yr Patch, the scroll work detail is awesome and genuine talent...the story about the process would make Mark Twain & Pinocchio proud. However, do you think overcharged Dan for the work? $0.22 seems a little steep for 12 days of Christmas...just my $.02 worth.
September 29, 20169 yr Author Okay my friend I was trying to find a way to ask about you and your wife's health. But really, health is nothing to joke about. And I was hoping you would read this post and comment on both of your well beings!! Grandpawdave, Dan, it might have sounded like an over charged affair but I pulled one on him not expecting the outcome. He asked how much was I charging after he had received the work and I left that part up to him............ This is where .... psychology comes in and always rewards the builder with more than he ever expected. But I got taken on the climax you might say. Danl sent way too much and after I hid the check, if he was to come looking for me, I was going to tell him it got burned up in an awful fire or my wife of fifty something years had another baby and we spent it on the doctors fee. Actually the govt. did ask about the large check I had just deposited. So Danl I have a suggestion for that limp. I saw one day where a dog got ran over by a car and lost a leg and I was thinking you might do the same remedy they did for the dog. They installed a wheel in place of the missing leg??? The wheel with a lock on it so you won't be rolling down a hill and your wife decides to leave you there...
September 30, 20169 yr For the rest of the story… One year, Christmas was drawing near and there were no toys being built in the Danl workshop and my wife needed a Christmas gift. Who better to ask for help than from Smallpatch. Thanks for helping out my friend. It was 2 X $0.12 = $0.24 not $0.22. Then along came spring and the bushes along the side of the house needed trimmed. One wrong move and down I went, falling off a ladder. Five screws and 6 months later I was back up and walking. A year later, I still have the 5 screws holding my ankle together and I am only reminder of my error every other step. I did have a knee scooter for 3 months. We must have made a good scene when she was pushing me up a hill at the local zoo last summer. She had her chance then to leave me at the bottom of the hill. My wife now needs our prayers. She is waiting for her 6th operation for this year. Late last year, she was diagnosed with breast cancer and has had other complications. In October she is scheduled to have an operation to repair 3 hernias and reconstruction. She now is nursing a cold and needs to get better to allow the operation as scheduled. Life has changed. We have received many trials, but we still count our blessings. My wife is cancer free. Thank you for asking, for your concerns, and keep using your creative talents. Danl
