September 28, 20169 yr Popular Post When I sit at the computer and look out the window I have a three ring circus to watch ,kinda. Humming bird feeders, a couple of clear containers with bird seed and down the steps a saw horse with a bowl of dried cat food, metal legs now but use to be wood legs, to enjoy a cup while watching the food. I suspended some, Sams clear cookie containers with bird seed that mostly attract, cardinals, finches, tit mouse, wrens, doves and squirrels plus a few sparrows. The tit mouse gets a sun flower seed and takes it to a branch of a tree, holds the seed on the limb and cracks it open with his beak , which sounds like a silent woodpecker. The dove are the only ones who after they find a way in to the container can't find the way out so we have to go out and lean it over and more or less dump them out. We do have coyote's and road runners but never seen the chase that use to be on the movies. I put a light over the saw horse for night time watching and none of my neighbors believe foxes , raccoons an occasional possum, and plenty of skunks are our regular critters all night long. Oh, the reason for changing the saw horse legs to pipe, skunks learned to climb up the wood legs, it did take a few months of trying but finally got to the top. They don't even try to go up the pipe now... And the pipe has made most of the smell at night go away for the skunks go elsewhere to eat. Cat getting impatient. When the foxes come out in the day time they have babies so they have to eat more often. If someone puts a feeder out, its a good idea to attach it to the saw horse. If you don't you will have to go look for it the next morning for the raccoons like to fight over it and play keep away from their buddies. But it does need to be removeable for after they eat, all critters, I think like to poop in the container, maybe except cats and dogs , thus keeping anyone else from wanting to eat there...So it does need to be washed from time to time, I know, that is more work for you but hey...
