September 28, 20169 yr In the the last couple of weeks while out to the Emerald Cities, managed to hit a couple of in-door flea markets, Habitat for Humanity Restore and a couple of yard sales...Pics of treasures. Yard sale finds.... Bottom 2 in this frame from an indoor flea market...not pictures was a 1/2" T x 12" x 26" piece of plate glass I intended to use for sharpening...turns out it was concave 1 side/convex other and out .013" from flat end to end side to side; I won't admit how many U100 Series B&D 1/4", 3/8" & 1/2" drills I now have accumulated...started as a parts quest for my original 1/2" VS a few years ago... Misc items on right included new Fuller stubby #3 straight and #2 straight Husky, 6"; I'm a sucker for unused screwdrivers; Also two items I'd never seen before, no markings. 1/4 collet chucks for hand brace Edited November 21, 20178 yr by Ron Dudelston tags added

It's fun to find useful items at bargain prices. It's as much the hunt and bargaining as the buy...I've been able to build woodworking tool inventory on a limited budget with some decent finds...other items I just enjoy collecting...hopefully someday my grandsons will appreciate what's been left to them...I have a few of my dad's and his dad's tools both mechanic and carpentry I wouldn't trade for any $$'s...I just love old tools and hate to see items get abused or trashed.

A lot of times the seller doesn't know what he is selling to you. I have been asked by the vendor---what is that?
September 28, 20169 yr Nice haul! I was recently shopping for a B-Day present for a buddy and wondered into a tool flea market. Found a Starrett 12" combination square with center finder. The level was intact as well as the scribe. Checked it against a plastic 12" drafting square and it was dead on. $35.

Great find Lew especially a Starrett. I stumbled upon this in a pile of junk a couple of months ago for a buck. It was pretty crusty/rusty. I was really excited when I got it cleaned up and saw it was a Starrett. The center finder is not original...I found it in a box of junk for $0.50 at an open air flea market last fall...had a little rust, but not bad. The sliding square is not original either...I buy them quite often at flea markets/yard sales for 25 cents to a dollar. Keep one at the router table, table saw and joiner just for quick checks.
September 30, 20169 yr Author It was cleaned up less than a week when I found it as a immediate solution because it was 18" L. Find myself using it way more than I thought. I've got a number of "old Starrett tools; micrometers, inside/out versions, calipers, a couple of dial indicators...probably all as old or older than me but way more accurate than I. The two T-bevels above are Millers-Falls, all steel and plated...I'll include them in a future thread...
