What do you think, I would try it.

I tried this once but I fed the stock at 90 degrees to the blade.  I ran it with my three blade shaper cutter. I made a couple of rounds and they came out alright As I would feed the stock across the blade i rotated it against the blade rotation by chucking the tailstock screw into a cordless drill.  My last attempt got kind of dicey so I dropped the idea.

Heck ya I'd try it! I have used the TS to make coves, so this is not far from that philosophy.
