September 22, 20169 yr Popular Post Check out this video of mass production with a huge band saw and lathe. Skip ahead, lot or it is repetitive.
September 22, 20169 yr It is amazing the advances in wood processing technology. What impresses me most is the fact that Mother Nature has been able to keep up with the demand. I do think we have given her a helping hand too.
September 22, 20169 yr Nice video Ron - it sort of reminds me back when I was in college and working for a timber company - I would go into the mill to watch the peelers work on the old growth DF to get a better handle on the recovery out of the logs. Also, spent some time in the sawmill too - watching the really big stuff (logs to big to peel) get cut up into lumber. Watching those processes really helped when I was timber cruising.

September 22, 20169 yr I agree with making lumber in the first one but was questioning the last one where it looks like pieces 2-3" wide about 24-30" long and 1/4" or so thick then being laid out on a conveyor belt to go somewhere else. Roly Edited September 22, 20169 yr by Roly
September 22, 20169 yr They could be trimming and sorting the veneer - some for plywood and some for smaller "craft packs" of veneer
September 22, 20169 yr I used to have a little table top band saw just like that one until I got a 'big one!' Cool watching the de-bark process and veneer cutter...maybe the small pieces to be used for engineering flooring or making wainscot panels???
