September 15, 20169 yr I did a google search for plans on how to build a fishing net, the one with a wooden handle, like the one shown. It showed a lot of ways, some you will get a kick out of. Has anyone on here built one and if so could you help me? Preston
September 15, 20169 yr I can help with the actual net part, but I am not sure about the handle part. That's prety much to what size fish you are likely to be netting, and your own taste anyway. Edited September 15, 20169 yr by Charles Nicholls
September 15, 20169 yr FYI, this net here looks as if it was made by a machine and then tied into the hoop with leather. Not a big deal, just an observation. Depending on what it will be used for (size of fish, or just decoration), will determine the size of mesh you need. I actually did make a dip net about a year and a half ago, but this one is for fish the size of muskies. It is not currently attached to a hoop/pole. Honestly I am going to wait and see if I ever find a use for it, either as a dip net or a trap of sorts LOL It's about 7 ft long.. Full disclosure, it was the first net I ever made, and I was attempting to make a cast net, but followed instructions for a DIP net without realizing it till too late LOL DOH! September 15, 20169 yr Heyy sorry about multiple posts, but I'm thinking as we go here, If you have a scroll saw, you could cut one out of just about any wood you want.

No you can't. You'll need to make a form jig and laminate it like the one in the pic. Strength and lightweight. Inbox message me I'll help.

September 16, 20169 yr Author The net I showed was just an example. I am making it for my son in law. I have lots of wood of different kinds so a mixture would be nice. I think I'll make a practice net and see how it goes. I will guess to cut the strips about 1/8" x 1' x to be determined so I can bend. I can make a jig with 3/8" dowels to the correct shape I want. Now you guys keep me straight if I start talking wrong about how to do this. Preston

I would think that laminating in the way you describe should work well.
