Double Dipping?

Featured Replies

Is anyone else getting tired of being called a double dipper?  I spent 24 years in the Air Force, and now 21 years in the post office.  And for that, I sometimes get called a double dipper.  I was even told once that when I am drawing AF pension, postal retirement, and social security retirement, I will then be a triple dipper.  Some of these people aren't kidding, they actually think I am scamming the system.  Has anybody else experienced this?  I am probably being too sensitive about this.  What do you all think?

...don't tell anybody what you're collecting...

For those who already know, remind them that it is no different than having worked for two large private sector corporations...

If that doesn't work, tell them it's cheaper than collecting from one place for 45 years and you're performing your civic duty...then hold your hand over your heart and start singing the national anthem...

...and if that doesn't work, tell them to go scratch their a$#...

so what are the welfare collectors called that don't earn their checks or have no desire to...

why even bother to put up w/ those that are too lazy to do the same as you have....

Why bother?  Mostly because I am too dam stubborn to give them the satisfaction of knowing they got under my skin.

You earned it so what is the problem. If the people complaining don't like it  tell them to get a job and maybe they won't have time to bellyache about someone success.

We earned every damned cent! But, Following the advice Nickp offered is often the best course.

I would not consider it double dipping. If someone worked at a private corporation, was let go with a severance package then started working elsewhere, that is 2 checks, not double dipping. You have served your time and earned both pensions.

They're just jealous! Just laugh it off and ignore them and their ignorance. You worked (hard) for both...be proud.

Good advice! I usually make it sound worse than it is just to rile the even more.

confrontation tells them just that...

A Cheshire grin will irk them to the core...

unless they are too stupid to catch on...

then you point out that they are stupid and let them prove it...

think of as dealing w/ 1 and 2D thinkers....

you paid in... so collect your returns...

think - ''BITE ME''...

I worked in civil service for 20 years and was forced to retire on disability because of  menieres disease. I couldn't work in high places . The foreman told me, " If I can't use you everywhere, I don't want you anywhere". I then went to work for a private company and worked about 25 under social security.. While employed, under Ronald Reagan administration, the government notified me that my civil service retirement would be terminated, because I was currently employed doing the same thing as I was doing prior to my civil service retirement. After months of doctors reports and a copy of my retirement papers, letters to John Kerry who was a senator at the time. I was able to prove the statement made by the shop foreman,  and the fact that my retirement was not voluntary, the civil service retirement was re-instated.I'm now retired under social security. The two retirement checks combined total less than either would be, if I had spent all my years with either in civil service or Social security.

Thanks everyone for your support.  I just needed to vent for a minute.  Of course you are all right.  I did work for every cent I get or will get from the govt, and my postal pension, when I do retire from there, is not govt money.  Most of these bozos don't realize the USPS is self-funding through stamps, packages, etc.  And I bet none of them would refuse the money if they could get it.  OK.  I feel better now.

The whole double dipping thing is malarkey. You earned it, and you get pensioned from the places you worked, if you worked there long enough. It's the same as if you put in 40 years in one place, instead you put in 20/20 in two different locations. I don't care if you did 20 in the military, than 20 elsewhere, you earned it.

I have heard the double dipping concept from a few radio personalities in our area, and they are against it, I never call in to these radio shows but when they get on that topic, I feel like it, and to tell them to take a hike. I don't get the uproar over it, I really don't.

Someone said it earlier and, it's so true. It's just pure jealousy. And, their crudeness is a mask for their own lack of foresight and planning.

Amen Gene, and what I don't get, so let's say they have a point, then what do they expect someone to do? Serve their country for 20 years, then stop working period? So at the age of 38 they just stop working?
