September 15, 20169 yr Popular Post This was a sign I made for my niece and her husband for Christmas. It ended up as one of their wedding decorations. The wood is Myrtlewood and finished with rattle can spray lacquer. I tried to keep the bark on the edges and then after the round over on the ends, I used a torch to darken them up to better match the sides with the bark. Thank you for looking.
September 15, 20169 yr The torch! Do you all remember throughout the 70's, torched grain was the big thing before you varnished the work? I remember dad taking a plumbers torch to some Doug Fir furniture he made, and I watched the grain fibers glow red, then turn black, pretty neat. Nice work on the sign Kelly!
