September 12, 20169 yr I like to weld up some whirly gigs. The quickest wind driven for me to put together is by starting with a bicycle wheel. Its round and already has bearings. After I started putting up some of these, people would stop and ask if I wanted more wheels. No charge, just to get rid of them . This one I go by, I'm a laid back Texan Or I like to do the wrought iron thingy. I bought one of those bending kits that will help bend thin metal 5 different ways from Northern. I use recycled plastic I ordered from somewhere in Ohio in 1989 for the outdoor seats of the mini golf I built. It was the only place I could find to buy these 2x6"s. I think it cost 12.50 each 12 foot length and then 12.50 each for the freight to Texas. This stuff needs lots of support underneath but it don't have to be messed with afterwards. I just did a trailer floor with it this week. The blue board is what it looks like when washed for I had to run it through the saw and washed it before I took it in the shop. I built this for wife's shop a couple of years ago. Same stuff I bought back in 1989. The extra has been stacked outdoors just waiting to be used since I bought the first load. Sorry for the extra pictures. Sometimes having two hands and fingers on each, I never know what the fingers are pushing and now that extra pictures are there I don't know how to get rid of just some without loosing all and starting over.
September 12, 20169 yr Got to watch how many of those wind catchers you put up Jess. You are liable to end up getting blown to and living in Louisiana. Must sound like a heliport there. They look fun though.
September 12, 20169 yr Author The only one that sounds is the small wheel for it had a bad bearing when I built it and that was at least two years ago. I can't believe it has lasted this long running day and night.
