September 6, 20169 yr Now that the little box is done, time to start on the other $1 slab..... This is the bigger of the three pieces from that one slab. Measured out at just under 38" long. I used the bandsaw to slice off the bark side ( most of it) 1/4" blade isn't the best for this sort of thing. With COPD, no way in... I'm doing this with a handsaw....I'd be there all day, huffing and a puffing....I'll let the bandsaw do that. Need to buy a wider blade, I think. Anyway, with the bark piece gone, this is still Depending on where I measure, just about 5" wide. Thickness? Needs jointed, but right now it is 2-1/4 thick. As for the other two sections.... They are a little bit shorter. Not sure IF this is another slab of Cherry or maybe a walnut. Not too bad, for a dollar bill. Not sure about the board feet in this slab, yet. Single Brain Cell Sketch Up is working on a plan of some sort.....not sure what it will be......leaning towards a table of some sort....might involve the lathe,,,,may have to dig the lathe out...Hmm...still have a bunch of "leftovers" from that little box.....accent stuff? We'll see how it goes...stay tuned to this Batty Channel...
September 6, 20169 yr that'd make a nice mantle over a fireplace in a rustic setting. and you'd be done! me? no current needs for furniture, but with that much thickness to deal with, i'd be looking at a book matched set of doors or a table top to show off the grain.

September 6, 20169 yr Author All three slabs are from the same board... I got fooled by the short slab.....it turned out to be Cherry, The three in this new project came from that LONG slab...
September 6, 20169 yr Steven, if the first slab is 8' long and with the other measurements are say, you say have about 9 BF in the timber. It is not cherry. Ralph
September 6, 20169 yr Author Did some youtube research, to give the brain a rest... Found an early ( Shopsmith era) New Yankee Workshop episode about a Shaker Candle Stand,,,,three curved legs, dovetailed into a turned column, thin round top....Hmmm may have to go back down and do a little layout, and make some sort of "cut list"... Of course, Norm used almost all power tools to build his version...mine? Maybe not so much....lathe? yep. Bandsaw? yep.....router and table? No. Tablesaw? Don't have one. The long piece is 38" long.....might get quite a few parts out of it. The one short piece might be turned? Have to cut away a bit of stuff on it, first. Bottom slab? Legs, maybe? Give me a week or so, to get things started up. Might be fun.... Edited September 6, 20169 yr by steven newman
