September 6, 20169 yr Popular Post Neighbor saw the short clock and wanted it for his wife's Christmas. I told him I had time to build another in the same style then he would have two to choose from. Well anyway I then built the taller of the two which I liked and wouldn't you know it, he left me with the one I didn't like. He took the big one so I put Junes name on it for him. These two clocks I used store bought carvings and enlarged the depth of them all. Then I decided I should try to make own carvings. It does take many time longer than waiting for them to come in the mail but hey it does make you feel better to build them yourself!!!!! It don't take me long to figure out I can do better the one I make...
September 6, 20169 yr Those both are really nice looking! I really like the way the grain looks on the sides!
September 6, 20169 yr Stunning Patch! You are an artist my friend! Thanks for sharing! Glad you got the sale even if it was your prized model. Guess we know what you'll be doing next!
September 6, 20169 yr Beautiful Jess. I thought your clocks were all hanging clocks. I didn't think they were that thick. They would sit nicely on a mantel. Of course he to the taller one. Bigger is better and more for the money.
September 7, 20169 yr Author Joe B its ash. I bought a large truck load of s4s and has lasted over ten years and this is the best wood I ever worked with. Or finishing it, it will take any type of finish. Or create something exotic since I don't buy the expensive exotic stuff. . There might be dumer people in Texas than all the other states but hey, those that bought or was given these clocks had no idea what I did until after I told them....
September 7, 20169 yr Author Dan after I took up all the flat area to sit things I more or less had to start filling up the wall space. I'm now researching clocks for the ceiling and maybe some that will float in no no land. Hows that saying go, if you can't beat em, quit!!!
September 7, 20169 yr I know you have said before but how to get the color in the grain the way you do? That is another fine one.
September 9, 20169 yr Author Gerald before any clear is sprayed I use some very fine pin striping brushes and water colors you use to use when you were 4 or 5 years old. As I apply the color I smear it with my finger. Let this dry and maybe I have to sand off some if I think I got too much or add more?....When this dries I fill the air brush with a little darker of the same color I used on that particular grain. This involves lots of air brush cleaning. I might also add if I was doing this for a living we would have died long ago...Fun woodworking is a light year away from having to pay the bills with what you deliver....
September 9, 20169 yr Two beautiful Clocks and it would seem they always pick the one you like best, but then that means you both have great taste! very, very nice work and beautiful grain in the wood.
