September 4, 20169 yr The shooting sport of IDPA has a rule that your pistol must fit inside a box of certain interior dimensions. 8-3/4" x 6" x 1-5/8" deep. Some shooting stages have competitors start with the gun in a box. Last month we had two such stages, but we didn't have a box. So I volunteered to make a pair. Had some scrap red oak laying around. Brought them to the match today, hoping to pass them along to the guy who needs them, but he was a no-show. No problem, I'll see him next week. I showed them to another friend, and she really liked them. So I volunteered to make her one. Found some scrap walnut, and did some preliminary prep work this afternoon. Planing, jointing, gluing up to get a wider piece for the top. I'll get it done this week and give it to her next week. Pics when done. It'll have an oak bottom. Just because. I'll make it sturdy but fancy joinery. Edited September 4, 20169 yr by DAB Spelling
September 4, 20169 yr Author These are the ones I made last week. It has inserts for different classes of pistols, to reduce the size inside by specific amounts.
September 5, 20169 yr Author got the box built today, will put several coats of Arm-R-Seal on this week (gloss), it's a wipe on poly. walnut, oak bottom, maple splines.
September 5, 20169 yr Author It'll be given to a friend who liked the other ones above that she liked. Walnut you say? Yup. Had one board that was crooked, full of sap wood. Not good for a cutting board, but cutting around bad spots I was able to make this from that forelorn piece of lumber.
September 5, 20169 yr Author first coat of poly on this afternoon. more later in the week as time permits.
