August 30, 20169 yr Time really seems to have really gotten away from me, I hadn't realized how long it had been since I've been into the forums here, but I'm going to try to get more regular again. My 12" Delta planer blew a gear and while it was an easy fix I decided to take the opportunity to upgrade to a new one. I really wanted to get a floor model 15" or 20", but at school I really didn't have space for it and I wasn't sure it would fit my doors. And the bigger one would have cost about $1500 and on up. I ended up getting a Cutech 40200HC-CT 13". This one has the carbide cutters and they call it a spiral cutter head, but it is just the way the cutters are arranged. So far I'm really liking it. The old planer was so loud I wouldn't run it with the kids in the room but this one is much quieter. The finish on the surface coming out is far smoother than the Delta was, most of the wood feels like it doesn't need sanding. Snipe has been minimal, and often I don't notice any at all. The cost on it was about $750 delivered. I bought it off amazon and so far I'm a happy camper. https://www.amazon.com/Cutech-40200HC-CT-Cutterhead-Carbide-Inserts/dp/B01F89FSVS/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1472521344&sr=8-2&keywords=cutech+thickness+planer Edited November 25, 20178 yr by Ron Dudelston tags added
August 30, 20169 yr Looks like a nice planer. Nice to know it is quieter than some of the other manufacturers.
August 30, 20169 yr Congratulations on the addition. I love the carbide spiral head on mine and you are right they are quite. Mine is a Grizzly though.

I believe this design was one that Steel City had, but Steel City went out of business and Cutech picked it up. I think it's imported like most of them are, but it ships out of Memphis, Tennessee. They've several models of planers and a 6" jointer. So far I like it, and they ship fast. http://www.cutechtool.com/Default.asp
