August 29, 20169 yr Good Afternoon folks, In one of my previous posts a person asked how do you figure how to charge for repair and refinishing? There are numerous ways of charging for your work in that business. First you might go out to an auction and buy an old piece and then take it home and see how long it takes you to completely restore it and this will give you a starting basis on how to charge by how long it took you to do the job, material and don't forget your over head because you can lose out if you don't charge to cover this expense. How do you do that? you simply take the cost of having the shop open each day for a month in both the summer and winter, then divide this cost by the amount of hours you spent in the shop or for each hour of the day of 24 hours and this will give you the cost of your daily over head. My daily overhead is $6.00 per day average year around, or $180 per month. I hope this helped. Respectfully, Ralph "Sawdustr"
August 29, 20169 yr Ralph, That is a really great way to figure out your time and costs - buy a piece and see what it takes for time and materials to re-finish it. Great Post!!
