this Greek people powered war ship called the Trireme and saw service for about 200 years... it was built using pegged M&T joinery...

Only goes to show, that, there isn't much new under the sun when it comes to woodworking. Old methods are still being used in one way or another.

 

Just think, you can now buy a $1000 Festool to cut floating tenons just like the Greeks did by hand!
