into the Friday, what's on your bench? thread. I moved earlier this year and our new place doesn't have a shop. About 2 weeks ago I signed the papers to have the shell built (I'll do the inside stuff) and was told that the concrete should be poured around the first week of September. So last Tuesday i get a call from the concrete subcontractor, he wanted to start the next day (Wednesday). Anyway, here's where we're at. He got this done but by Thursday afternoon, the heat and humidity was so bad (I guess) he said he would be back on Monday and have it done by next Wednesday. I'm happy to get this part started (and finished), and I'm not sure the construction crew will be running 3 weeks early, but I'm glad to get it rolling. Anyway:

Nice pour. Looks to be a good sized slab. Tell us more and keep the pictures coming.

Is that building in the background yours or a neighbor?

That'll be bigger than my back yard! I can dream....

Fred, nice start and congratulations!!!! Now this is a project to sink the ol teeth into!

What size is the slab, and do you have a drawn up plan for this baby?

That barn in the background is ours, it's a 32x50x16 machine shed. What makes it a machine shed is that the floor is gravel. It was part of the original farm that became 3 properties, the original house, the one I bought (the farmer's new house), and the field (sold to a neighboring farmer). The new shop building is also 32x50, of which the first 30 feet will be my shop and the remainder will be storage for some tractor attachments and lawn equipment. This replaces 2 buildings i had at our last house, a pole barn (concrete floor) and my shop. Just trying to save some money by not putting up 2 buildings by making it one that's slightly larger. No plan for it, it's being built by a company that specializes in detached garages. They've done one for me before and it worked out quite well. This will also have a covered porch (6x24) facing the house, to the right in the photo.

Shoot, that's bigger than my home and yard!

Cool Start Fred.

Cant wait to get started on my new shop in a couple of years.
