August 5, 20169 yr While this forum is not heavily populated with luthiers, this video offers a unique template affixing method that all woodworkers can use. I may never need double sided tape again. For me, the greatest advantages of this method are it's holding ability and it's ease of removal.Enjoy.

I've always used a grocery bag and Tightbond II. That splits apart easily but leaves a fuzzy mess that needs to be sanded. This looks like it avoids the sanding problem. I'll need to try it on some "fragile" turnings to make sure the wood doesn't break when separating. I guess some acetone/mineral spirits would aid in dissolving the bonds on really tiny turnings.
August 5, 20169 yr Author Lew, lacquer thinner works best. At least to get masking tape residue off and loosen the double sided carpet tape I have. It sticks like crazy. But, that's why I like the tape and CA method. It eliminates two steps and a messy clean up. Plus, it's cheaper than my double sided tape and the lacquer thinner.
August 5, 20169 yr That was a very helpful tip!! When I make my children's knock down rocking chairs I have used the double side tape. It is a pain in the bee-hind to use and there is always the issue of sliding while pressing the wood/template. So next time I will give the masking tape/super glue a try. That should make my life a lot easier.
