July 11, 201610 yr I cleaned up a small shelf in the garage this afternoon and it was warming up outside a bit. I had a small job outside but by 4 pm it was 100 degrees, it is now 6:30 pm and it is still 100, that job can wait. Humidity is low at 12 %, that does help, however that also dries out grass and brush. We have a couple of wildfires going already. One started by campers, another by someone tossing out a cigarette. Some people are so thoughtless.
July 11, 201610 yr Temps have been warm here, also, but our humidity was upwards of 70% for a couple of days. Reminded me of the hanger deck of the aircraft carrier. Clothes soaked thru in minutes.

My family and I toured the USS Midway this week, as soon as I get em all downloaded off the camera and fixed up I'll post them here, I know all you Navy folks will love em!
July 11, 201610 yr Author John, when we arrived off shore in Viet Nam, the uss New Jersey was sitting about a half mile from us. I kept hoping they would fire one of their 18" guns. Being in the heavy artillery, I would love to have seen that happen. But it didn't. That was the closest I would ever see one. I don't think any exist now.

But because tossing a cigarette butt is an affirmative act involving an ignition source in a flammable environment Arson should inhere. The intent requirement in the arson statute should be fulfilled by the intent to toss the hot ember.

The jersey had 16 inch guns. 18 inch guns were outlawed in Washington Naval Limitation Treaty of 1922 . Sorry I am intrigued by fact searches, esp WWII info. Watched "Task Force" last night about aircraft carrier development and the pure fact that some of these fliers survived from the years of the Lexington into WWII was amazing. Oh before I degress further GOOD THREAD.
September 18, 20169 yr The only ships to carry 18 inchers were the Japanese battleships Yamato and Musashi.
September 18, 20169 yr I go slot out in case I mESS up and need to remove it. Oh wait! Mess up? NO NO NO.
September 18, 20169 yr Author Gerald, I wasn't sure what they were, but they were very impressive. Our 175s could fire 20 miles. I'll bet those 16s could fire a lot farther. We also had atomic rounds and thank God we never fired one.
September 18, 20169 yr Ended up with sunshine and humidity back after the rain. From yesterday afternoon until mid afternoon received nearly an inch...creeping up on 13" of rain over the past 30 days. Way too wet and mosquitoes approaching small aircraft size. 41 minutes ago, Texaswally said: The only ships to carry 18 inchers were the Japanese battleships Yamato and Musashi. Until of course the USS Yorktown aircraft took care of the Yamato...been here a couple of times...Patriots Point Charleston, SC ...extremely interesting and humbling Also have visited here on a couple of occasions too: Mighty Eighth On the first visit, a couple of our tour hosts were crew members on B-17's in the European theater. Talk about being honored to have them as your tour hosts.
