War is H(E)LL

I have picture of me as a 2 year old, with my older brother Mike when he came back from WWII. I also have a picture of me with my brother Carl when he came back from Korea, I was 5 or 6 years old. . Each had memories of the wars they were in, but never shared with anyone, but me, many years later. Mike told me about his time with the unit that flew gliders behind German lines. Many years later and as fellow vets, we had some serious conversations. Mike was a happy go lucky guy and never seemed to have bad memories of his experience, but he did, as I found out.  Carl suffer greatly from PSDS BADLY when he returned. I can't express how dangerous he was. He married a great loving woman. She stayed with him through horrible times. He turned out to be a good guy, mainly because of her, Jenny.  Many years later.  he opened up and told me things he never told anyone, mostly because I understood. But the most horrible times were felt by my parents. 4 sons in terrible times. I didn't mention my younger brother Dave. I knew that when I came home my parents would be so relieved. 3 sons in 3 different wars. However, it didn't happen that way. LBJ's Viet Nam war, lasted long enough to get my younger brother Dave too. For the forth time, my parents cried.

There ya go Ron! There's always a work around.

Ron, you have an incredible history of family sacrifice in service to our nation. I can't say any more, I have no words. Any words I express here unless I actually experienced what your family did, would be meaningless. All I can say is, Thank You.

Thank you for sharing this, Ron. I cannot imagine the anguish your parents must have endured.

Some nights, it was a bit hard to sleep....122mm rockets will bounce you right out onto the floor of the hooch,  then you have to change your pants...again

The Boss made a mistake one day, and tried to wake me up......she didn't shake my foot to do it......her rearend almost went out the bedroom window...even though it was closed.     it do take awhile to get over things.....

Had a "Second Class" that was the same way. If you stood watch and had to wake him, you stood at the end of the rack and shook it hard.

Steve, I did that too. I always woke half way to the alarm on the dresser. In the mean time I threw her completely out of the bed. She moved the alarm next to me on my side.:D
