May 26, 201610 yr Now have the two curved backs bandsawn to shape. Spokeshave to smooth the inside curved areas But, for some reason, all it wanted to do on the outside curved side, was chatter. Planed it with just a couple handle planes. So, now I have both curved rails for the back.. So, I can work on the tenons. Those will be 1" long, to start, adjusted for length after the mortises are chopped. Old School tenon work....LOTS of handsaw work. That old backsaw was a bit too slow.. Remembered I had sharpened up a Disston 5-1/2 ppi Rip saw awhile back, so gave it a try on the longer cuts.. Yes, it is angled to match the curve. 3-1/2" wide rails. Coping saw to make the smaller crosscuts, chisel to clean things up. Got both ends of the two back rails tenoned up, decided to do the seat's support piece that goes under the back.. as it matches the length of the back rails.. Used the backsaw for this job, and the coping saw. hands were about done for the evening.. Next time down there, need to make a bunch of slats, for the back and the seat....M&T the back slats to the rails. And then......maybe mortise into the back posts to install the back. Seat would then get done after that....about ...July? Moving along at the Speed of...Smell...stay tuned.
