May 8, 201610 yr A certain day was known a Decoration Day? There would be a big parade to the cemetery in town. Veterans groups all dressed in their old uniforms, Active duty people that were home on leave would also be in it. Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts would have wreath made up for each grave of a veteran, complete with a tiny flag. After all the speechifying by the local big wigs, a bit of band music, and the 21 gun salute with Taps..... Each veteran would take a small group of scouts out into the grassy areas, stop at each garve of a vet, place the little wreath. The "guide" would then render a hand salute at each grave. This went on until all were honored, no one was to be left out. After which, there was a get together at the legion Post, lunch served. ( And a few "cold ones") remember when?
