Good Monday Morning Patriot Woodworkers! April 18, 2016

Good Monday Morning folks! Time to kick the tires and light the fires! Hi ho hi ho it's off to work we go!

So, what are your woodworking plans for this week ahead, and what did you accomplish over the weekend? Me? I've been reading my wonderful books I received in the mail a few days ago and priming my mind for the grand opening of my shop once again. To see the books I have been reading go to

I am ready to start to create some jigs for some chairs I am excited about, and to begin production, I have college educations to pay for and my day job only gets our family so far! So here we go!

So, how about you all? What ya been up to!

Snoopy New Week.jpe

LOL I always did love Snoopy.

As for what I have going this week, well a doctors visit at some point because something about my stomach is still not right, and it's not good to go into it here :)

I also have at least one pen to do out of Corian for a friend (you may have seen my Facebook post about that. I also have a few bottle stoppers to do and a small (TINY) bowl to finish. I hope to get that all done this week so it actually feels like I actually accomplished something.

Have a great week everyone. I'll be around.

No shop work today and tomorrow. We've decided to employ a permanent solution to our perennial swallow nesting problems.  Now, you PITA types, just settle down. No shotguns will be employed.

They love our car port so we are going to wrap netting (normally used to protect fruit trees) all around the two open sides. It'll be installed so we can easily remove it after the nesting season has passed, and easily re installed next spring. Hopefully, no more mud nests to scrape and wash off and DEFINITELY no more bird droppings on the cars and concrete. For such small birds, they sure can poop a lot.

Today- riding herd over a bunch of teenage boys in the IST program at the local Vocational School. Rest of the week remains to be seen.

Lew, Don't you understand the retirement concept????;)

Seriously though, your dedication to our youth's education....especially VOC ED is admirable. Hope you can get some shop time later.

I totally agree with what Gene said here Lew, thank you for doing your best to get youth involved in Voc classes. :)

I got to work the real job all day Saturday so not a lot of shop time then. Sunday afternoon I pushed a broom around a while (2 30 gal cans worth of shavings) then prepped and/or glued up 24 cribbage boards, started a couple of chessboards. Today was 8 lazy susans into the clamps, and planed the cribbage boards to size. the rest of my week will be spent wrapping these up for this weekends show.

What is an IST program?

I still have a couple of clock cases for antique gravity clocks on the bench in my shop. For me, small projects take a disproportionally longer amount of time to get done than large projects.

Small projects make me feel like I have a little breathing room in my schedule. Then, I end up allowing myself to get distracted with other things that have been neglected such as paperwork, design work, bids, or even working on things for my own house. On large projects, I know that I have to stay on task to make sure I get done, meet deadlines, and make money.

IST= Information Systems Technology

I started at the Vocational School in 1970 teaching Electronics Technology. There were no computers in the classrooms then. We did have a separate Business Data Processing course that used the big old IBM punch cards machines. That program eventually closed as technology advanced. Time passed and we added Apple computers to the classrooms but they were abandoned in favor of what are now called PC's and then we eventually networked everything. In those days, the Electronics Technology program was the closest thing we had to being able to build, repair and maintain the new technology. In 1998, I was asked to develop/start a new program specific to the "new technology" of computers and networking. That program was called Computer Technologies. Through evolution, and state requirements, the program eventually had a name change to Information Systems Technology (IST).

Sorry for the long winded explanation.

That was perfect...it left me with no further questions!;)

Todd, I really love those ladder back chairs. I'll be making some bending forms for the backs and rear legs.
