Good Monday Morning Patriot Woodworkers! Feb 22, 2016

Good Monday morning Patriot Woodworkers! What do you have going on in your shops this week! Inquiring minds want to know!

Gristmill.thumb.jpg.8451aa7794f8c3de1bcbHere we are rocking and rolling and ready for a new week of fun and work in the wood-shop! I am a huge fan of the MWTCA (Mid Western Tool Collectors Association) and every year for the last 5 years I have subscribed to support them. Their subscription starts on the calendar year, so every January you would pay the modest 26 dollars to be a member, have your name listed in the national directory book of which you get a copy, you also receive a really nice reproduction old book of tools, machinery, or something related to woodworking, and on top of that you get a quarterly publication (The Gristmill) delivered to your door. All of these items together are easily worth the dues, but more importantly you are supporting a great cause. These folks main mission is to keep the antique tools history alive and well, and they are very good at it.

They also have regional tool meets and conferences, many of them are within driving distance from our members here.

I encourage you to sign up with MWTCA, help support a great community of collectors, and help keep our tool history alive.

Below is one of the Annual Reproductions you receive with your membership, this particular one I received last year, a really neat old book that is actually brand new due to their professional reproduction, each year MWTCA sends out a different reproduction.

Below is a neat video made by Jim Bode Tools showing off one of their tool meets.

And finally here is a link to join!

Neat video and site, John. Thanks for posting it.

My week is going to be assembling chairs. First job is to get the adjustable backs fitted up. Then I can attach the sides and lay in the seats. Finally, apply the arms. There is a faint light at the end of the tunnel. When I get one assembled, I'll post a pic.

This past week I came down with some bronchitis so I had been taking things easy for the most part drinking lots of fluids and taking my antibiotics. Tami and I did go out to start getting some ideas about renovating our master bedroom, bathroom and closet down the road. We spent some time walking around a few home improvement stores and looking at various types of tile and flooring trying to get some ideas. I also was able to finish painting the entry and closet doors for our guest bedroom as I got them down to the garage before I got sick. Got 2 coats of semi-gloss white on them and they are ready to go as they are now sitting inside the walk-in closet of the guest bedroom waiting to be hung. The last thing I need to do for our guest bedroom is to paint the door jams with the same paint before hanging the door. I was planning on painting the door jams today, but that is not going to happen. The bronchitis that I had been taking meds for over the past week decided to do a u-turn into full blown pneumonia. So after going back into the doctor this morning and getting not just 1 but 2 shots of heavy duty meds into my rear end along with a 7 day supply of oral heavy duty meds, I am feeling like I am walking in waist deep water in a swimming pool. So today I am crashing on the couch and surfing the web and most likely taking a few naps while my lungs get a kick-start to clear out the crud.

You bet Gene, I expect to see some of our members in the new 2016 directory!

Looking forward to the pics of your chair Gene, thanks for that!

So ya feeling any better Allen after a nice long day of napping and internet surfing? It was a fabulous day outside today, I bet you probably had some windows open to let that fresh air in too. Sounds like a comfy day, but under less than desirable conditions I know.

John,

Doing better as the heavy meds are taking over. I put on the Fox News Channel with all the various political stuff in the background while doing some research online and dosed off a few times which was good for me. So now that it is later and the meds have been cooking inside me, I am pretty much wide awake so I may just crash on the couch tonight so I won't disturb Tami in bed so she can get a good nights sleep.

Well I hope you're feeling better today Allen. I can imagine how you feel. I always look at these days of being down with a cold or flu as a clear message from the man that I've been hitting it too hard, and it's time to give in for a couple days. So far this flu season I have not had a single event, now that I just said that, I'll be sick as a dog very soon!
