Wednesday's Wisdom For Woodturners December 30 2015

Featured Replies

Another year is almost in the books, hard to believe 2016 is about to start!

I've been gluing up rolling pin blanks, in between visits from friends, and should be able to start the finish turnings in a day or so.

I stumbled across a video, by Ernie Conover, on pen making tips. His information is straight forward and makes sense. I especially liked how he keeps glue from sticking to the inside of the pen tubes.

The Woodturners of South Western Missouri posted a PDF for several interesting turning jigs. There's a nice description of a shop made steady rest and a donut chuck.

You can read the entire document at- http://www.woodturnersofswmo.org/wp-content/uploads/2013/10/Bob-Bezanson-Jigs-2010.pdf .

For those readers just getting into bowl turning, here's an article on "what not to do". As a teacher, I always tried to reinforce the positive- "always do..." rather than the negative "never do...". Regardless, there is some good information contained in the article. Read it here- http://www.nickcookwoodturner.com/articles-how-not-to-turn-bowl.pdf

HA HA HA HA HA   other than the Free wood part I did pretty much all of it all wrong on my first bowl.   It was a Honkin' huge hunk of spalted maple crotch
