Broken Jointer Saga Continued

Featured Replies

For those that remember my jointer is out of commission. The group here gave me numerous options and I decided that I would go with a planer sled for now to flatten one face before planing to thickness.

My grandad gave me his old Ryobi planer about a month ago and I just got new blades in for it last week only to find out that the belt in it had dry rotted while he had it sitting around. I ordered a new belt but had a Christmas present (napkin holder with matching trivets) to make using some rough maple and walnut so I had to come up with something else. This would also be my first project using rough lumber that I got from John Moody. Thanks again John!!

I had read an article about how to plane boards using a router and a sled so I thought I would give it a shot since I was in a time crunch to get this particular present finished before leaving town on Friday. I also had numerous other projects going on so I built the sled and took my time flattening and then getting the boards to thickness with my router sled I had tossed together and just wanted to share the results. This method was a bit longer but it worked pretty well.

I was was very pleased with the results. I will have my planer belt waiting on me when I get back and will get it up and running but if nothing else I have added another tool to the arsenal for wider boards or slabs.

Hope everyone has a Merry Christmas!

As the old adage goes Necessity is the mother of invention.  Nice going!

Apologies. It appears my pic didn't initially post.

Very nice. Looks like the router sled worked well.

I use a sled set up to flatten my end grain cutting boards before sanding. a slow and steady feed produces some pretty good results

Looks like John Moody has some official Florence competition!  They look great.

Wow, those turned out really nice. Glad you got them done, but you were welcome to come by here and flatten them.

Believe me I would have but I had a bunch of other projects going on at the same time! I was going back and forth between them all. I know you know how that is.
