Wednesday's Wisdom For Woodturners November 4, 2 2015

Been a busy week around here. I substituted on Monday and we are getting ready for my Mom's 90th birthday. Siblings will all be in town, so we have been making preparations.

I finished turning all of the walnut bowls and applied Bumble Bee Butter to them.

Try as I might, my sanding skills still leave a lot to be desired.

The plank of walnut had a lot of sap wood so it did make some interesting patterns.

I also started the Spalted Maple bowl. It goes much slower. After turning the outside, I saturated the surface with CA to help stabilize it- prior to sanding.

After the CA dried for about a day, I sanded the side. The reverse chucked the piece to hog out the material. Once the final shape was refined, I saturated the inside of the piece.

The inside still needs sanding- as well as the outside needs to be resanded a little where the CA got away from me. Then I'll reverse it again to finish off the bottom. This bowl will be finished with wipe on poly.

I still have one more turning to go to get all the Christmas stuff done. Not exactly sure what it will be but it will be made from Butternut.

The Woodturning On Line newsletter arrived this week. http://www.woodturningonline.com/index.php . It has a couple of Christmas turning ideas. There is a video on turning a Christmas Star-

And there is a tutorial on turning an inside out Christmas Tree ornament-
