October 31, 201510 yr I've tried re-purposed flip top bottles from carious food stuffs. They always ended up clogged or the cap breaks.I tried the Glue Bot bottles. Liked 'em until they clogged.Read about a women using baby bottle nipples she claims they never clog apparently the nipple closes in a pretty good seal when you stop squeezing, but it's a small opening. So I'm going to try a collapsible silicone bottle. The endless wars we have with our glue bottles.Of course maybe it's just my altitude. Maybe I should think of glue bottles as consumables. Edited October 31, 201510 yr by Cliff
October 31, 201510 yr I've gotten into the habit of saving the tips off of empty bottles, prying them apart and soaking them in water, to get all of the glue out. When one clogs, or breaks, I just grab another.
November 1, 201510 yr I use bottles from axle lube for my glue bottles when the tips clock I just unscrew it run a wire through it and cleans right out.
November 1, 201510 yr I had been using mustard bottles, the bright yellow color makes it easy to find them (sort of, I'm geed at misplacing things), and the caps open by turning them about 1/2 turn. Years ago, those same caps would screw on/off the bottle. Most of the more current ones lost the screw on part, but some of the private label brands still have them...you have to shop carefully. But a bottle of private label mustard sells for $1, throw the mustard out, keep the bottle, and it's as cheap as buying something. I did try the Glue-Bot and wasn't real crazy about it, though I know a lot of folks like it.
November 1, 201510 yr Tried the Glue Bot thingie, eventually threw it out. Tried the mustard bottle, too. That was OK. But now, I just use the TiteBond bottle with the push/pull cap. If I remember to push it back down after each use, it stays unclogged. Some smart guy on YouTube pulled the whiteish moveable cap clear off and put a large washer over the blue part with the plug on it, put the cap back on and now he isn't always fighting the cap to open it. I'm not that smart, I've gone through 8-10 bottles since I saw that video and still haven't put that washer on.
November 1, 201510 yr I'm prone to getting glue on pretty much everything when I'm working with it. So I developed the habit of having a bowl of warm water, and a rag (old wash cloth) handy when I work with glue. I close the Titebond cap after each use, and wipe the excess glue off of the tip. I also wipe the excess glue off of what I'm gluing, I hate having to sand dried glue. This approach seems to make glue ups much less work.
November 1, 201510 yr I just use the glue bottle and try to remember to push the cap back down. Like Larry, I have some water and a rag to wipe up excess.
November 1, 201510 yr Author But a bottle of private label mustard sells for $1, throw the mustard out, . HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA
November 4, 201510 yr I buy glue by the gallons and just refill one of the Titebond bottles. When I'm finished, I close the top and wash it with warm water. If there is a lot of glue in the top , I take it off and wash it with warm water in the sink. It is ready for use the next time.
