You guys who make cutting boards for sale

Featured Replies

do you include a little page with care instructions? I don't make stuff to sell, but one of the local food banks pays some of their costs with a thrift store. I was thinking of making  a small batch of cutting boards to give them for sale over the Christmas season. Wondering if I should just attach a page to each one explaining the finish and care basics.

I give one with my rolling pins. It contains a little info on care and feeding as well as a precaution concerning the dishwasher.

Yes, I always include written instructions on how to care for the cutting boards. If not then people do stupid things to the cutting boards and then they fall apart and then come complaining about it to the woodworker. I attached a Word Doc of the care instructions that I typically give out.

I don't but when we sell, either my wife or I will explain the dos and don'ts emphasizing never to run them through a dishwasher.  So far, I haven't had any returns.

I give a use and care God work everything I sell.  If  you'd like to see it is available as a download off of my website. I'm on my phone so don't have access to attach a copy here.

Thanks John....well written.

OK you guys, you made me feel guilty.  I typed up some care instructions and went one step further.  I ordered a batch of 1 ounce clear plastic bottles from U. S. Plastics and plan to fill them with mineral oil and give one with each board I sell.  I'll have about 40 cents in each one but I think the personal touch it adds may be worth the money spent.  For the record, Walmart is the cheapest on mineral oil at $1.98 for 16 ounces.

John,

The name of your business reminded be of a place about half way between here and Gettysburg, PA. This barn is truly a "Round Barn"

My grandmother used to  say that they made round barns so the devil couldn't trap you in a corner.

Actually a really good idea, Ron. Maybe if I do make some for the pantry I'll do that. US Plactis is about 14 miles away, I can go there and get some small bottles.

I guess I forgot you were a Buckeye Fred.

Something I've been trying to change since I retired (hate Ohio), but someone in the house doesn't want to move away from the grandkids....and they are all young adults!
