Blowing sawdust off the line of cut.

Featured Replies

Earlier this year I received a wonderful gift of a Ryobi SC165VS Scroll Saw which I REALLY LOVE.  I've been working on acquiring scroll sawing and intarsia skills (Not ready for "prime time" yet.  Don't want to sicken anyone)and it is great except for the sawdust blower.  That is not unique to Ryobi but seems to be a problem with other budget priced scroll saws.  The bellows just doesn't provide enough air to do the job.

Newton had his apple.  I had my own inspiration..  I use a very old (like close to 40 years old) Craftsman 8 Gallon Shop Vacuum for dust collection. -For my Lathe and also for my scroll saw. It REALLY SUCKS BIG TIME.  Does a great job for me.  While the Shop Vac was running I reached over the top of it to grab something and my hand went over the blower outlet. Lots of air coming out.  EUREKA.  I got an old piece of BI-PAP tubing and hooked it to the blower outlet and routed it over rhe line of cut.  The shop vac blows great while simultaneously sucking  and the pattern line is kept nice and clear.SO now I have two hoses going to the scroll saw - for dust collection attached to the dust collector port in front and for sawdust blowing aimed down at the saw blade.

I am a VERY HAPPY CAMPER.
