If you've been thinking of surrendering and paying the rather high price for a festool brand tool you might wait a bit.

The Eurozone is on the cusp of falling into another  recession.  They may not but they may.

If they do Festertool may cut prices

It's complicated but:

China's manipulating its currency, forcing others down lowering costs on Chinese  export goods and raising import costs by extension

Greece is expecting a boatload of money ( that nobody has to give) to find its way from ( mostly Germany)  and the Eurozone to be squandered on stupidity  in the islands.

The Euro zone productivity failed to meet expectations last quarter . They expected 0.4% ( a pathetic amount) and they got 0.3%

Euro Central bankers are edging closer to another of those destructive stimulus  packages.

 All in all, it looks pretty dismal for the Euros.

So they may be selling tools cheaper in the next few weeks

Thanks for the heads up. But you know... that color of Festool green just doesn't go with the decore and color scheme of my basement shop.

I caught an episode of American Woodshop and it looks like Scott Phillips has gone to the Green. Almost every tool he was using was Festool Green. I guess they stepped up the sponsor bucks. Even the Delta bandsaw was a new color of Green.

Like most of us, my point of reference was "Norm". For the most part his tools were "obtainable" even on my meager budget- except that monster wide belt sander he used in later shows. 

To me, the "green" tools are so over priced that I don't even drool over them. They may work fantastically, but, my $$$'s need to be carefully doled out to get the best bang for the buck. The American Woodshop used to be along those lines. From what you observed, John, not any more.

If Cliff's predictions come true, they may be more affordable, but, I wonder if they will ever be in my price range.

same here Lew. I even remember earlier Norm show where he was using bench top tools. I have upgraded many of my tools to better tools as I can spend the $$$ but like you I don't even look at the Green ones. Just too much for a single tool. I can purchase many of the others before I spend that much money.

 

I have arrived at where there are not many of my elders to respect---as was mentioned previously--age has diminished their numbers-----that said many things that were so important are seemingly not so any more. To me there is a great satisfaction in experiencing [1] a really sharp saw blade in action [2] being able to accomplish a shop function with smooth finesse because the tool used worked really well. I only have 2 Festool units, my first of many years ago was top handle jig saw, and just a couple of weeks ago I purchased the newest ROA. The jig saw works extraordinarily well---a joy to use-- and even though I have used ROA sanders over the years----the Festool simply blows those out of the water. To each their own----me, I take deep satisfaction in the enjoyment of what really works well

I have to agree with everyone's points here.

 

Way too expensive for my wallet. Take the "floating tenon" tool (DF-500). It is just barely South of a grand and only does one size. Want to do another size...pull out the wallet!

 

With that, said, everyone who uses a Festool absolutely loves them.

 

For now...I'll stay away from them, thank you very much, and spend my money elsewhere.

I'll stumble along with my Shopsmiths and old PC sanders. For me, the fun of woodworking comes less from the tool than from the process. 

Although I do enjoy using power tools, I wish someone like Steve Newman had grabbed me by the scruff 50 years ago. 

Never too late, Gene. A couple of good planes, I'm sure you have the basic hand saws and of course hand chisels. The rest is just experimentation and practice.
