July 30, 201510 yr Hello all, Can someone tell me what the best blade is for creating curves or scroll type work on my band saw?
July 30, 201510 yr I would suggest the narrowest blade the bandsaw manufacturer recommends. As for brands, I've had great success with the TImberwolf blades from Woodcraft.
July 30, 201510 yr Narrowest blade as Lew suggested, and as many teeth as required to get a fine cut.

Of course the more narrow the blade the more it can angle in the kerf.
August 1, 201510 yr I have had great sucess with Timber Wolf blades. Olsen also puts out some nice blades. The narrower the blade the tighter the curve you can cut. I keep blades from 1/8" up to 3/4" depending on what I am cutting. Also the number of teth has a lot to do with the smoothness of the cut. Like many other operations in the shop, speed and feed have a lot to do with the outcome and quality of cut.
August 1, 201510 yr I suspect that by far the most widely used one for curves is the 1/4", with an appropriate tooth configuration. But they make 3/16" as well as 1/8" ones that can do some really tight curves. There's a certain TV woodworking personality that makes a lot of bandsawn boxes, and loves the 1/8" blade for those (unnamed because it's a terrible show). But you need to check if your saw will take the thinner ones. My saw will not unless you change the guides.
