July 26, 201510 yr Trying to make some headway. been also trying to get things cleaned up around here.. Anyway, Did some woodworking, just to relax a bit got the second large frame done. Justset it aside on top of the other one. Which is setting on the table's top. had to trim some parts to length, as the end frame needed to be built, to Found out that IF I rubbed acandle along the tooth edge, this saw will cut just fine. laid out where the tenons were to be.. About an inch wide. The block helps steady a lot of things today. Used that same saw, as it was out, to saw a line. hammer and chisel to pop off the waste. Then a little pare work. Then, went all six tenons were done, started to layout where they were going. and set up a few toys...er...TOOLS That three piece jig is to hold things staedy, while I chop the mortises out. Almost an inch deep. The mortise chisel on the left USED to have a leather washer on the end. Until it went flying by, on it's way to parts unknown. Got all the pieces to where they would fit together, did lunch, and brought down a plank for some raised panels. There was just enough to make three panel blanks. This one for the end frame. And two for one side frame. Cut the longer ones @ 22-1/4" long, but needed to narrow them down a bit. Yes I do have a good hand-powered rip saw, but I like this "Vintage Skil Saw" as well. Besides, I had a LOT of work to do. Marked a line 1-3/8" in from the end. Time to raise a panel with just handplanes Per Paul Sellers. I use a rankly set No. 9 Millers Falls ( PS uses a Stanley #4), I go at an angle to the grain until a bevel appears. Checking to see when it is thin enough Rotate, and do the other end. Then reset the small wood block. Not enough room for two clamps. Have the edges to plane next. When done right, there should be a 45 degree line down to the corner. Then, rotate, do the other edge, and check it too. Set this one aside, and repeat on the other blank. lay both aside,..somewhere.. I think that will do for one day? Will assemble this side later. Made a mess on the floor, that I had to sweep up.. So...maybe in a day or two, I might have something built?? Stay tuned to this Batty Channel...
