Friday, July 24th, What's on Your Patriot Woodworker Agenda

Featured Replies

No woodworking taking place in my shop right now. I got the stitches removed from my left hand yesterday but I still mostly have no feeling in my first two fingers and my thumb. Since I can't feel them I don't want to take a chance ad cut them off and not know it. So I have mostly been sitting around taking it easy and reading a bit.

We had a F1 tornado come through here about a week ago and it took down lots of trees. Wednesday I went with my good friend here with the skid steer to pick up a couple of logs. He did the cutting and loading and I did the watching and bringing him water.

The Logs on the bottom are the Hickory and the smaller logs on top are Chestnut. I an area where he was picking up these logs there were some Oak trees down that one log would have filled the trailer.

So hopefully I will get a chance to take them to the saw mill and get what we can from them. That is all about all that is happening at my shop.

What about the rest of you Patriot Woodworkers? We here at TPW love to see your projects and the pictures that go with them. So share with us your weekend woodworking agenda!

Well, if you have to cut off a finger, it's best to do it when there's no feeling in it... but I digress.

For me, cleaning up the shop and checking the tool alignment getting ready for the next project.

Nice logs John. :D

I found this along side the road yesterday. :o

I'll be checking it over for building into a machine bench.

The top was laminated 1 x 2's but has came apart in several locations. I'll probably salvage what I can for a larger bottom shelf.

I have a table top that is laminated 2 x 2's that I'll be using for the top.

It was fun getting this on top of the wifes Jeep....NOT....

Nice roadside find Larry.

Should make a really nice bench stand.

About 20 years ago I built a really large bookcase and it's served us well. But our last house was big enough for it, and the current one is not. So I'll be starting a new one this weekend. Lats one was oak, but this one will be cherry....and I hope to skip the mistakes I made on the last one.:rolleyes:

Most of Phyl's siblings are arriving today and tomorrow for a week long mini reunion.

Spent the last few days cleaning and reorganizing my shop so the in-laws won't realize what a slob I am.  One good thing about cleaning. I don't need to buy any pencils for a while.

All the parts of the Morris chairs are cut (except the arm rests) and mortised, and tenons are cut. Still need to cut some of the tenons to width. And, there's some scroll work to be done.

Then I can start assembly some time in August. The next week is all family time.

I almost put the wifes Jeep in the ditch when I saw it.

It was about a mile east of our house. No way was I going to leave it there long enough to go back and get the truck. ;)

Someone put it out for the once a month bulk garbage pick up. :o

Lucky for me the wife forgot to get coffee. :D

Oh my John, I would love to get a log, Shipping would be pricy though LOL

No orders this weekend so I am just tinkering. I may do some glue ups for some ornaments that I want to get started on BEFORE Christmas this year LOL

In our home town, the last weekend in July is called Summerfest.  There is a big shindig at the old high school and all of the class reunions happen on that weekend.  On the town square there are juried art show, juried artisan tents and lots of entertainment.  I sat up a booth in the artisan's tent and did O.K. and really had a great time seeing friends I've know for 60 years and selling wood works.  This evening there was a DJ on the square and all of the "old timers" in the city get together for a giant party.  we just got home and I'm pooped.  I'll post pictures tomorrow.

Sounds like a great time Ron! I frothed at the mouth with your images of the town square on your FB page, America at its finest!

I'm rested now.  Here's our setup from yesterday.  The booth behind us had a husband and wife team.  He turner (on a Powermatic) and she cut intarsia (Excalibur).  Nice work and she ahd even heard of Fred Wilson.  That's scary.Summerfest_2015.thumb.JPG.939df5358edd27Summerfest_2015_2.thumb.JPG.e5624a1b4e49

Happy B-Day John!!!!

Nice Booth, Ron!

I like the wine bottle holder. I "borrowed" an idea from someone and made a few for Christmas presents. They were a big hit.wine_bottle_holder.thumb.JPG.894819abda6

Nice Booth.  Some of the smaller Indiana towns still have that nice old timey nostalgic look and feel. A feeling some of us would like to regain.

How did you wife like you using her jeep to bring it home?

Ernie,

Basically all she said was "What is that?", "Where did you get it?", "How much?", and "Did you get the coffee?"  (I did)

After I told her how I came about it she helped me get it off the Jeep. :D (I managed to get it loaded without damage to the Jeep)

I had used the laces from my boots to tie it on.

Very nice booth setup Ron and Dorothy.  Looks like you had a great selection of items.
