April 17, 201511 yr Last week I posted the article and pictures of the Stanley No. 113 Type 2 Circular plane I came across. Well as it would be I kept looking and ran up on this Stanley No. 113 Type 1. So now I have a matching pair of No. 113's in both the Type 1 and Type 2. The Type 1 was made from 1877 to 1880. The Type 2 was made from 1880 to 1891. If you notice the adjustment wheel on the side, the Type 1 is solid and the Type 2 has four holes. These are nice pieces to add to the cabinet.
April 18, 201511 yr Author Sell you some nice walnut to build a bigger cabinet I may take you up on that Lew.
April 18, 201511 yr I love them John, nice mention on the holes in the wheels, I never would have caught that! It's those little nuances that make these old tools really cool.
April 18, 201511 yr Author I didn't catch either on the first John till I had already purchased it. Then I did a little more research and saw the difference. So I went back looking for a Type 1 so I would at least have a pair.
September 25, 20169 yr John, please excuse an uninformed question but, how were they used? With their relatively short production runs, I'm guessing the product they were used for went out of favor or a more efficient method of production was found.
September 25, 20169 yr Just some subtle differences in appearance. They must have got it right the first time.
September 25, 20169 yr I have been working for some time to arrive at a complete 113 of any type for my user pile. Those that I find almost never are complete and intact but I have started a parts pile. They just do not show up often in my area and especially not at my preferred "bottom feeder" pricing! Yours are beautiful and early. Very nice finds, indeed!
